Dr. Abdelwahab’s Pioneering Innovations

  1. The first composer to apply dodecaphonic and serial technique to Arabic Maqam, producing a new musical technique known as "Maqamism" (Cairo, 1989)
  2. The first composer to produce a composition for violin four hands, requiring two players and two bows on a single violin (Vienna, 1994).
  3. The first Egyptian composer to notate pieces based on traditional Arabic Taqaeem improvisations (Cairo, 1999).
  4. Devised a new system of music notation for the deaf that is based on color patterns and shapes, capable of aesthetically representing key elements of all forms of traditional music (Boston, 2008).
  5. The first Egyptian composer writes electronic music in chart music notation in his composition "Chernobyl"

· The first composer to offer a multimedia and electronic music concert in Egypt at the Cairo Opera House under title "Basamat" , (November 22, 1999).

· The first Egyptian composer to write a composition in modern graphic notation in movements of his String Quartet No.2 (December 2, 1999).(Copyright)



The first concert for electro media music with live orchestra compositions under title "Tonalism", with Cairo Symphony Orchestra, Small Hall, June 5, 2003



· composer and director of a theatrical performance "Faqaqia Hawa" at the International Festival for Experimental Theater (September- October 2004), Cairo, Egypt.



· Devised a system of music education for the deaf: "Visual Solfege." This system uses colors, shapes, patterns, and new optical symbols of music notation.(Copyright)



· Established a Deaf Ensemble which performed a composition for kitchen utensils ("El-Hon") for a public concert at the Cairo Opera House (March 30, 2005).



· Devised and introduced new musical terminology (such as "Maqamism") as well as multi-art concepts published in a booklet of two volumes, entitled SoundScenography , (Cairo: Academy of Arts, publishing, 2005). (Copyright)



· Introduced a therapeutic composition utilizing water sound effects for treatment of clinical depression, used in therapy at a private hospital, Cairo (2006).
